These motor failures are critical as they can cause a line-down situation which can result in downtime from a few hours to several days.

'Beat the Street' uses smart technology to transform entire towns and cities into a game

'Beat the Street' is an initiative developed by Intelligent Health to increase physical activity levels across entire towns and cities. The initiative recently launched in Weymouth and Portland and runs from the 3rd October - 14th November 2018.

The aim is to get people away from their phones, moving and taking on the challenge socially. It challenges users to tag as many locations as they can with a smart card or fob, instead of using their phone.

Apple held its annual event last week to show their latest versions of the iPhone, along with upgrades to their iOS operating system.

It was unveiled that Apple will finally open access to the Near Field Communication (NFC) reader in the new models of the iPhone - the XS, XS Max and XR Models will now support the reading of NFC tags without users having to first open an application.

Nike have partnered with Chelsea Football Club to deliver an interactive football shirt using NFC.

The shirt is embedded with an NFC (near field communication) chip and can be scanned with any smart phone.

Fans who purchase replica shirts can scan the NikeConnect logo using the Nike app. This will allow users to access exclusive products such as athlete playlists, unlock content and have access to special promotions. Fans can even help Nike designers to create a special edition shirt.
